I enjoyed a marvellous Christmas break (I admit it lasted about a month, but my new philosophy is "enjoy life" and that's what I was doing!) and I hope you're ready to shimmy with me in 2015. I'm delighted to be teaching at Dancebase again, with beginners classes at 6.30pm on Wednesday and improvers at 7.30pm on Wednesday. Classes started yesterday but you can still join in next week before bookings close. Dancebase runs a "try before you buy" scheme, so you can give the class a whirl before you flash the cash. This term the beginners will be learning basic bellydance moves and styles, while the improvers work on increasing the passion in our dancing, specifically to Egyptian song and the beautiful Ana Fi Intizarak by Oum Kalsoum, in it's many different versions. You can listen to Oum Kalsoum singing it here: And you can enjoy some beautiful dancing to a version of the same song here. The great news is that there will also be perfomance opportunities for both classes! So if you fancy putting some of your skills into practice, I will be making that happen. Last term the improvers got a lot out of performing in the Dancebase Christmas Show and I would love it if as many dancers as possible got to enjoy performance experiences. My class at the Fisherrow Centre resumes on Thursday 15 January at 7.30pm for everyone. If there are lots of beginners there this term then I'll run two classes! Fisherrow is a no-mirrors class, lots of fun and always a great atmosphere. There are 10 week in the term, costs £55 (£50 concessions), and you can pay by paypal, just get in touch for details. There are a host of haflas coming up too, starting with the Arabic Bellydance Society's annual extravaganza at The Pleasance, and followed by the Stutt Your Stuff Afternoon Hafla at Lifecare House in Stockbridge. All the details are on Facebook, so if you send me a friend request I can send you all the details. I am also excited to be back to teaching because I can publicly wear my favourite birthday present from December... glittery greek dance sandals! They are marvellous and I am besotted with them! I hope you can come and join me with sparkling and shimmying in 2015.
